Attending Virtual Assistant Conferences

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a couple of the Virtual Assistant Conferences within our industry this past month. I thought I would share my VA conference experiences with you at the VA Talk Show.

I attended the VA Summit which was held in Charlotte, North Carolina and FoVA which was held in Toronto, Ontario.

I am attending and speaking at a a conference being held in Canada, May 2-4th. This is a great opportunity as a Virtual Assistant to network and learn from each other. Brian Greenberg of WNJC 1360am Radio Interviews a Virtual Assistant

I was recently interviewed by Brian Greenberg on Philadelphia's Renaissance Radio Station, WNJC 1360AM to spread the word about Virtual Assistants so thought I'd share the interview with VA Talk Show listeners. Brian is the host of the "Greenberg News Show" which airs Thursdays from 5pm-6pm. You won't want to miss Brian's show as he always has some very interesting guests each week!

Here are a few of Brent's favorite extensions:

1. Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer If you use Firefox on more than one computer, you'll want Foxmarks. Install Foxmarks on each computer, and it will work silently in the background to keep your bookmarks synchronized.

2. FoxyTunes Do you listen to Music while surfing the Web? FoxyTunes lets you control almost any media player and find lyrics, covers, videos, bios and much more with a click right from your browser.

3. Adblock Plus Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them

4. Sage Sage is a lightweight RSS and Atom feed aggregator extension for Mozilla Firefox. It's got a lot of what you need and not much of what you don't.

5. Search Engines a few popular search sites in the Search Bar in the upper-right corner of Firefox. If you'd like to add more, there are hundreds to choose from. Click on a Search Engine to add it to your Firefox Search Bar

6. Firefox Showcase Showcase provides a new way to manage your Firefox tabs and windows by showing them as thumbnails in a single window, tab or sidebar. Includes a find bar that will filter the thumbnails, and the capability to select the thumbnails in the same way you would select files in your system.

7. 404 : Page is Not Found ? Now it will be! If a page was (re)moved and now shows '404 page/file/site not found' error, this tiny extension uploads archived version of a page (from wayback machine at archive.org).

8. RankQuest SEO Toolbar RankQuest SEO(Search Engine Optimization) Toolbar provides you quick access to more than 30 intuitive SEO tools. Alexa Rank and Page Rank provided by Alexa and Google respectively ensures the popularity of the site. Once you download and install the SEO Toolbar you are only one or two clicks away from carrying out most of your day to day SEO.

9. ColorZilla Advanced Eyedropper, ColorPicker, Page Zoomer and other colorful goodies.

10. IE Tab This is a great tool for web developers, since you can easily see how your web page displayed in IE with just one click and then switch back to Firefox.

		For the last seven years Paula has been traveling, living full-time in an RV with her boyfriend, a contract helicopter pilot and their 12 yr old 3 legged dog. Prior to running off into life’s newest adventure, Paula was coordinator of a busy Visitors Bureau in California. As her first experience with the tourism industry; this helped encouraged the travel bug to take hold. Finally, our first episode of the VA Talk Show!

I've learned many things from putting this show together for the first time. One is, don't use the telephone for recordings (I hear you Brent!) and two, have scheduled recording days else you will be stuck in a cubicle recording for days on end! So other than a few glitches in sound here and there because of telephone recordings, please enjoy the first episode and know that future shows will only get better as I learn more and more about podcasting. I'd love to hear your comments and suggestions at the bottom of this post.

Debbie Tester tells us all about the International Virtual Assistant Association

The International Virtual Assistants Association (IVAA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the professional education and development of members of the Virtual Assistance profession, and to educating the public on the role and function of the Virtual Assistant.
